Best-in-Class, why and what is it?

IT industry is relatively immature and closed. Software development is small and each supplier produces mostly within their own walls. The problem is that it takes at least 5-6 years for a software vendor to develop the comprehensive system, which has been increasingly difficult to meet customer requirements. Complex ERP systems, which include everything from sales, MPS, OLFI, economics and management support (plus everything else in between) has been difficult to keep up with the rapid development of the world and the IT environment.

The concept of Best-in-Class is based on specialization and interaction of components, as in more mature industries. This means that each program focuses on the activities that have been mastered best and linking its system with other specialized systems into a finished product.

A Best-in-Class system provides several advantages:

  1. Customer may retain parts of their existing systems.
  2. Higher quality. Each subsystem is developed by specialists in this particular business / industry.
  3. Simple future version changes. Systems meet better the requirements for industry-specific solutions with minimal adjustments.
  4. Parts of the business system can be changed. Everything need not be changed at once.
  5. Customer is not in the hands of a sole supplier.
  6. Specialization and demarcation makes it possible to keep up with technological developments and to raise the system to new platforms.
  7. Lower cost through shorter take-off distance from the project to production.

We ensure that the customer has a contractor who takes responsibility for the overall solution. In the same way as for example, Volvo will take responsibility for the finished car, which they designed and assembled the parts from a variety of subcontractors. There are now standard tools that ensure that "fit into the screw nut," and can be used to connect the various systems.

An industrial approach through specialization and collaboration

It is precisely this that Best-in-Class is all about. While software development is entering a necessary industrialisation phase!
